Lincoln Square

Farming began in Lincoln Square in the 1840's as German Americans arrived in Chicago. Two brothers, Lyman and Joseph Budlong, arrived in the City in 1857 to start a commercial pickling operation near Lincoln Avenue and Berwyn. The Budlong brothers later opened a commercial greenhouse and flower fields, providing flowers for Rosehill Cemetery. Lincoln Square received its name in honor of former President Abraham Lincoln in 1925 by the Chicago City Counsel - a prominent statue of the namesake was erected in 1956.

More than 40,000 people currently live in Lincoln Square, along with about 1,000 small and medium sized businesses. Accessible via the Brown Line, Lincoln Square is bounded by Bryn Mawr and Peterson Avenues on the North, Montrose on the South, Ravenswood on the East and the Chicago River on the West. LincolnSquare is historically known as a heavily German influenced and populated neighborhood and is home to a wide variety of restaurants and shops.

Several live music performances and festivals are held in Lincoln Square including Apple Fest, German American Fest, Square Roots Festival and Rib Fest.
